On The Road North......

Monday April 15- Today we spent the day at the Red Oak RV park. It is very nice here with lots of trees. I went up to one of the pools and spent some time there in the afternoon. We walked the dogs and just hung around here today. We will be traveling again tomorrow. Jeff used the shower house  and told me how nice they were. I went to check it out except I went to a different one. It wasn't as nice as he described but I did manage to see this fellow...kind of neat. I think he found a good place to hide and take a nap.

We decided to call our next stop to see if they had sites. Well it was good we called because they were full. Jeff got on the computer to find another spot. We like to travel between 200-250 miles. We don't like to have to travel too far from the interstate either. We found one and gave them a call. It was STAY N GO RV Park in Marianna Florida. It was within our driving range and close to our interstate. We gave them a call and he was very polite said they had sites so tomorrow we will make our way there.

Tuesday April 16- We were up and on the road at 8 a.m. We had great weather for driving. The whole trip was on interstate too. We found our RV park and pulled in. When we arrived we couldn't find anybody to talk to about a site. I gave him a call and no answer. Then he texted me back. I finally got him to tell us a site to take. We were on site 48. The park was a bit rough. It is fairly new and they are trying to get everything set up. This area was hit really hard by the hurricane. On a positive note the guy did show up and was very pleasant. They don't take cards yet so I had to write a check. With passport america it was $25.00 for the night. We had 50 amp service, sewer, and water. We only was here for one night so it was fine for that. We went and filled up the vehicles with fuel and got ready to travel tomorrow.

Wednesday April 17- On the road by 8:30 this morning and we had good weather again. We are driving to Woods RV Park in Montgomery Alabama. We have stayed here quite often. It is easy in and out. The area outside the park is a bit sketchy but we just stayed in. We arrived before noon and got set up. After we arrived we just watched camper after camper pull in. So apparently many people had the same idea as us. We went to get fuel and then just stayed in and rested up. The traveling is hard work some times.

Thursday April 18- Today we are making our way to Nashville Tennessee. We will be staying at the Yogi Bear RV Park. We got on the road by 7:30. We are trying to beat the rain that's heading our way. We traveled almost 300 miles today, going through a couple bigger cities. We had one slow down when we arrived in Nashville on  I-440 but it wasn't too bad. We arrived a little before 1:00 o'clock. Jeff checked us in and we went to our site # 811. It was a pull through. We got set up and still no rain. We felt very lucky avoiding the rain cause on the radar it looked like we were really going to get it.

We went to the mall that is just down the road from here. We got a bite to eat for supper and just did some walking around. After sitting in the car so long it felt good to walk a bit. The rain held off until we got home. I went to take the dogs out before the heavy rain started and the door handle was acting weird. Jeff went to look at it and it was broke. We couldn't get out. It was dark and raining. We really didn't want to climb out the window. Good thing we have a screwdriver in the junk drawer. Jeff took the handle off so we could get out. Great something else to fix. We have found that it's not fixing the problem. It is finding the stuff to fix the problem. So many people can't even help ya. We are staying here for 3 nights. We are watching the weather to pick the best day to go downtown. They are calling for rain both days now so we will just have to watch the radar and decide.

Friday April 19- Brrr it's really cooled off out there. Today is looking to be the worst day weather wise so we will go look for a handle and make it a movie day. Lucky for us there is a Camping World right down the road. Bad news is they didn't even have what we were looking for. We went next door to another RV shop. Jeff went in to see if they had it......they did and it was only $35.00. Yeah. We came home and Jeff fixed the door handle. Then we went back to the mall and went to the movie. We went to see Break Through. We both wanted to see it. I liked the story but the acting seemed a bit amateur. The popcorn was great. When we came out of the movie the mall was crazy busy. It felt like Christmas time. The kids are out of school. We didn't hang around there very long. We received a funny picture from our son. Maddyn, our granddaughter  went to see the Easter Bunny today....I don't think she was a fan.......

Saturday April 20- Today we are going downtown to check out Nashville and the honky tonks. When we got up it was still raining. We looked on the radar and it looks like it will clear up. We called a shuttle to come pick us up and take us downtown. They pick you up at the park and drop you off at the A T & T building which a block away from the action.  They arrived at 10:30. We walked up and met them. When we arrived it was still misting. We thought the weather would keep the people away. Well I can tell you that wasn't the case. They also have a Stanley cup playoff game taking place here today too.  Since it was rainy we found a bar to take cover in and listen to some music.

.

We visited Deirk's Whiskey Row, Nudie's, Tin Roof, Whiskey Bent Saloon, Tootsie's and a few others. They have music going nonstop. In some of these places they have 2 or 3 floors with live music on each floor. The crowds were crazy and the music was loud. We had fun and listened to lots of great music. We both knew when it was time to go. The rain did stop and when it did it got more crowded. We usually go on a week day but with the weather this was our only option. We had a great time, and we will be back.

Sunday April 21- Happy Easter everyone. We sure miss our church especially today. When we got up it was really foggy out. I did see some deer in the field behind us....we must be getting closer to home. The pictures below are pictures that I took on Saturday morning. They were back today as well. The fog is going to have to lift before we set out.

The sun came out and the fog lifted. We hooked up and headed out but not until we spotted the Easter Bunny in the park. Miss Ruby was not a fan either. She just kept barking..yikes.

After the fog lifted the weather was great for traveling. We are going to Gun Creek Campground at Rend Lake. It is close to Benton Illinois. We had already dealt with most of the Nashville traffic, so leaving was easier. We arrived about 1:45 and went to find a site. We did not make a reservation. We found a full hook up site, #61. We backed in and set up. Went to pay when they opened up at 3 o'clock. It is a beauty of a day. Ruby and I went for a walk to check out the campground. We use this park often.

Monday April 22- Today we had some things we wanted to get done. I did a little cleaning inside. We took the dogs on a  walk. Then we made a list for Walmart. Jeff's little frig in the basement shot craps and he wanted to look for a replacement. So off to Walmart we go. We got everything we needed even the frig. We brought the truck just in case we found one. We also needed to fill it with fuel. Last time we were here Walmart was the only place with diesel not bio-diesel. Well this time....not the case. Earlier this morning Jeff took the car to a gas station close to the park to fill up the car. They did have diesel but it was about 30 cents more per gallon than at Walmart. So we will go back there and fill up the truck on our way back. Next we went for lunch at our favorite Pizza Hut. We visit this place every time we are here and are never disappointed. It is a small place but the food is always perfect and the service...wonderful. This time was no different, so good. Then back home. Tomorrow, on the road again.

Tuesday April 23- A travel day and the rain has held off. As we were packing up I noticed we picked up a passenger. I bet the kids will love him. We were on the road at 9 a.m. We are making our way to Ray Behrens campground which is close to Hannibal Missouri. When we lived in a house this was where we would come camping. Our challenge today was making our way through the St. Louis area. We had a plan but then we saw a detour sign. We had to take it because the bridge was closed. The good news is the detour was way better than we remembered. Jeff thinks they have changed that route. So it was a pleasant surprise, most detours are  not. We arrived at our next stop a little before 1. We found a great site and backed in and set up. It was a lot cooler here. So I made some soup for supper. The rain came later in the evening.

Wednesday April 24- It was a chilly cool, wet day. It was gray and rainy on and off most of the day. Jeff stayed in, I made my way to Hannibal to visit my favorite quilt store. I had a fun morning just looking around. I could take my time since Jeff wasn't waiting in the car like he usually does.

Before heading back I filled up the car with fuel and stopped at the store. Home for supper and tomorrow we will make our way to Keokuk.

Thursday April 25- We woke up to some serious fog. We only have about 90 miles to go so we will definitely wait for it to lift. We were on the road by 9:15...super easy travel day. Won't be needing a GPS today. This stop is our home town. We arrived at Hickory Haven Campground around 11. We pulled in to site #1 and set up.

As we were setting up Ben Wharton showed up. That was a surprise because we had just talked to him and they were suppose to gone. They decided to stay an extra day. We got caught up a bit. We had to get ready to go to town, we have a tax appointment. After we got our taxes done, We stopped by my sisters house to visit with her and her husband. Then home to do our laundry, it was really piling up. I made some supper and then went across the street to visit with Jeff's brother Fritz and his wife Shawn. We had quite a full day.

Friday April 26- This morning I had a doctor's appointment with the skin doctor. We came home and went to the local coffee shop to have coffee and a roll, which was super good. We ran in to people we knew so we had to visit. Stopped by my sister's again before coming home. Then for supper we met my best friend Judy and her husband Don for dinner at a local pizza place, Angelinis. We had a great dinner and a great time with friends.

It was a fun time celebrating Judy's birthday one day early. Then we headed back home, tomorrow we are traveling to Cedar Rapids to start collecting kisses from our favorite kiddos....

Saturday April 27- Today was going to be a bit tricky to travel. There is no way to avoid the rain this time. We left at 7 a.m. When we left it hadn't started raining yet but we were heading right in to it. Now we just have to worry about the temperatures. It was about 45 minutes before it started raining. Then it started raining really hard with the gray sky and gray roads...not good. By the time we arrived in  Cedar Rapids the temperature had dropped 15 degrees. It wasn't pouring rain when we set up but it was raining and the wind was a blowing. The park looks really nice and our campground had more campers than we expected.

After setting up just what we need we came in and got warmed up. We didn't stay here long before we packed up and went to Justin and Molly's house to see Miss Maddyn. We weren't sure how she would react to us. She is used to just seeing us on the phone. When we got there she was definitely timid. It didn't take long for her to warm up to us. She was a hoot to see. I think she liked her baby shark do do too.

We were having fun playing with her and visiting with Justin and Molly. Then I looked outside and seen the weather had changed. It was sleeting, hailing, snowing something. Whatever it was I knew we didn't like it and it meant really cold. We backed up and headed back to our campsite. There was even more snow out there. It was definitely snow out there.

We won't be seeing Seth, Katie, Ashton and Hailey until tomorrow. They are in Minnesota at Hailey's regional gymnastic meet. We were waiting to hear the results from Seth online. It took a while to hear but Hailey placed 8th on the vault. She fell on her beam routine which she started out great on. We are very proud of her accomplishments.

Sunday April 28- We woke up to really cold temps, in the 30's. The snow was gone but it is still really cold out there. The one good thing is we got to see the sunshine for a while. We got up dressed and headed in to Perkins for breakfast before going to church. It was nice to be back at The River Of Life Church. We headed back to the campground, we are waiting to hear from the kids to say they are home. They left really early and at 1 o'clock Hailey called to see when we were coming over. Well it didn't take us long to get there. We had to bring Ruby cause Hailey asked if we would. It felt good when we arrived the kids came running out to meet us. Those were some fine hugs we received. It felt good to talk with them and see what was going on. They weren't that good in talking to us over the phone. Ruby got to get to see there pups again. She wasn't to sure about them. They don't do everything she wants them too like Belle does. Seth and Katie fired up the grill, well Ashton lit it and then when Katie went out to put on the meat she came in and said very calmly......the grill is on fire.... Well it didn't hurt anything and they made some brats and chicken. After eating we headed back home. It felt good to see the family and spend some time with them all. There's no place like home...
