I wanted to post an entry to the Blog to highlight some of the musical acts we experienced over the winter here in South Florida. For anyone visiting the Jupiter area this is a great place to catch local talent. We had a blast going to the local amphitheaters and pubs watching some great bands, duos and solo artists.
We had heard they were having events at the Wellington Amphitheater, Seabreeze Amphitheater and the Stuart Amphitheater. We first saw a Tina Turner tribute in Jupiter called Simply Tina, It was a great show and we had a great time. Next we went to a Doors tribute band in Stuart can't remember the name but it wasn't our favorite. There was another show at Seabreeze and it was a Chicago Tribute Band, We both are not huge Chicago fans but loved this show as they also covered the Stones and other classic rock bands. We made 3 trips to Wellington for Tribute bands at their amphitheater. The first was a Foreigner tribute band 4NR2 they were very good and also did several Bad Company songs. The second trip we saw an Eagles tribute called the Long Run with friends Jeffrey and Maren. We all loved this show and was our favorite at the Wellington Amphitheater. Our 3rd trip we saw a Neil Young tribute called Forever Young, It was OK.

We also went to several Bars and Pubs to watch some very talented locals. We liked going to the Blue Point and also Tiki 52 as they are close to the park and have a laid back feel as well as nice water views. We also visited the Square Grouper which is a bit rowdier and has a great view of the lighthouse and inlet. Another new place for us this year was the Sneaki Tiki in Stuart. Our main reason for visiting was to watch Jodi Gaines w/Eleni Skiba acoustic duo. We had seen them before at the Blue Point and Harry and the Natives and absolutely loved their shows. Dawn and I don't always agree on things but we both agreed we enjoyed listening and watching these two perform. Jodi's vocals are amazing and Eleni's guitar playing and backing vocals really make this duo shine. I liked her originals so much I went on line and downloaded the EP Soul Sugar. Just really cant say enough good things about these two gals. We will be looking forward to seeing them next winter.

Another one of our favorites was the String Assassins. This band takes some classic rock songs and puts their own spin on them, bluegrass style. We saw them first at the Square Grouper but only got to see them do a few songs, so we decided to catch them again at another spot called the Twisted Trunk a local brewery. We had a great table for the show and I even tried a watermelon beer which was quite good.

Another musician I have to mention is Jason Collanino. We saw him and another guy that played drums at the Blue Point. It was a great show and we wanted to catch him again but never made it to another. Not only is this guy a great musician but is legally blind and has memorized all the songs. I looked online at his library of songs and there is well over 600 songs he knows. Hope to catch him again next season.

We also saw a band called the Killbillies . We had seen them the first year we came to JD at the Tiki 52 and remembered really liking them so we found out they were playing there again so went to give them a listen. This time there was just two of them so a guess you could call it a scaled back version but we still really enjoyed it.

Did I mention we love Live Music, We even had a little jam session at the Park Pavillion when a few campers with guitars got together and played some songs. It was a great night and a great season. See you all next year.
