And We're Off

Monday October 15- Big day today...it was the last time we will be cleaning the shower houses for a while. We don't leave until Wednesday, but they are closing them up today...yeah!! So I got busy on my list of things to do. I made a special little girl a promise and I need to get that done.  So first thing I did was head in to Seth and Katie's house. I have gotten Hailey some mermaid stuff that needed to go up in her room.So I grabbed my tools and got busy with that. I hope she likes it. She has a new bed coming too. I will supply the new quilt for her Christmas gift.

While I was there I took advantage of the laundry facilities. When I finished I came home to load up the kayaks and the boats. After supper started stowing away some of the things inside. We are doing this early because we want to make sure we don't forget anything. I'm sure it will take time to get back in to the moving process.

We are definitely seeing some fall colors here at the park. That's the part of Fall I love.

Tuesday October 16- Today is our last full day here at the park. We still have some things to do before pulling out. One thing is we had to tape up our window that was broken in Nashville. Don't want it to fall apart going down the road.  We are getting it fixed in Florida. Jeff wanted a haircut. So got that done. Then we had a few visitors stop by. Dave and Jane Griffey stopped by to say good bye. They have been our neighbors many times this season. Then later Lenny and Dawn showed up too. That is Jeff's guitar playing buddy. We got everything done here we needed to get done. Then for supper we headed in to Seth and Katie's to have pizza and say good bye to them. We had to go early cause Hailey had gymnastics. After our good byes there we went to Justin and Molly's to say good bye to them. That is always the hard part. Tomorrow we will hit the road.

Wednesday October 17-It's a beauty of a day. We couldn't ask for a better day to travel. We took our time to hitch up and pull out. This will be the first time that I will be following him, well all the way to Florida. We left around 10:45, and away we went. Everything went well. It was a short trip and one we've made many many times.

Before we knew it we were in Keokuk. We pulled in to Hickory Haven Campground. We have been here a number of times. We pulled in to site #4. We didn't realize that it was 30 amp service...oops. Oh well we are only staying here for 5 days. You also don't get local television without a dish.  Good thing we have a dish system. We got set up and it wasn't long before we were up and running.

One surprise to us was when we pulled in I spotted a motor home that I thought I recognized. It belongs to some friends of ours, Dave and Sharon Johnson.  We used to attend the same church when we lived in Keokuk. They went on the road before us but got off. Now they are back on and we haven't seen them in years. It was fun catching up with them.

Our first appointment was have dinner with a great friend. We went to the Southside Boat Club for tacos. We met up with Coy and had a great meal with great conversation. The good thing about it was while we were there we saw so many people we knew. We were down there for quite a while. So much fun.

Thursday October 18- Today I went to see my sister. I was going to pin a quilt together for her but we ran in to some problems, gonna have to come back. Then we went to the post office to mail back our broken tire monitors. It was lunch time so we got a bite. Then to the store. We ran in to so many people it was hard to get out of there. I'm not complaining because it's always fun to visit. We came home and made soup. Dave and Sharon came over to visit some more. They are leaving tomorrow. We had supper together and then they went home. Next thing I know Judy is here. Well you know how that goes, we are professional talkers. It was a full day, that's for sure.

Friday October 19-  I went back to my sister's Dru house to get her quilt put together. Jeff stayed home and his friend Greg came by. He also received his replacements tire monitors. Another day that just flew by but it's not over yet. After her work Judy came by to get us. We went to dinner at Buffalo 61. Jeff and I have never been and when we arrived it was packed. We didn't have to wait though. We got us a seat and some food. Every one's was good except Jeff's. His looked the most impressive but didn't taste that good. He couldn't even eat it. Mine was really good. Usually when it comes to messing up food it's always mine, so that was different.

Saturday October 20- Busy busy day. First thing went for coffee at Java River Coffee House. My good friend Coy works there so we stopped by for more visiting. After leaving there we went to my sister's garage sale. While there my nephew and his son came over....more visiting.

me and Austin...he gave me a 3rd eye

It was a really cool day out there especially with the wind. We came home and before long Jeff's brother Fritz called to say his oldest daughter and family were at there place. We haven't seen them forever so we went over. Thank goodness they live right across the street from our campground.

It was wonderful catching up with them and getting to know there kiddos. We haven't seen them for quite a while. We walked back over to our campground. We just sat down when Jeff's brother Rick called. Jeff had been waiting for him to call. He said they were on there way to Mt. Hammel for dinner, asked if we wanted to join him....we did. So we jumped in the car and away we went. Rick was there with his wife Sarah, daughter Savannah and grandson London. It was the first time we met London in person. We ordered up our chicken dinner, which was super good. We had a great time dining and talking. Then we headed back home to sit down for a minute. I received a text from friends Teri and Matt, they are stopping by to finish up our day. Surprise, Matt brought Jeff some Yuengling beer. That's funny because Jeff always brings him back some when we head home in the spring. Well that was a full day.

Sunday October 21- Another busy day. We stayed around here in the morning because I needed to get the laundry done. With this cooler weather we have bigger, bulkier clothes to wash. We went to town to wash the truck and fill with fuel. Then over to see Jeff's sister Annie. We talked with her, and Jeff's phone rang. It was a Mike, a guy he worked with at the fire department. So that was our next stop. Went to Mike's and visited with him and his wife Sue.

While visiting with them my phone rang. This time it was Jeff's brother Fritz. We told us his other daughter Taylor was there with her family....so, that was our next stop. We talked with Taylor, her husband Taylor and there boys, Hudson and Houston. We had never met Houston before. As you can see we have quite a big family. It's hard to keep up with them all. We couldn't stay to long because we had a visitation to go to. Some friends from our church here in Keokuk lost there father. We knew him and he was a wonderful man. Well needless to say we saw a number of fine people we haven't seen in years. We left there exhausted and hungry. We didn't feel like cooking so we stopped at the Pizza Hut before calling it a day. Tomorrow we will move on down the road.

Monday October 22- Today was a travel day. We aren't going very far. Before we left we spent some time visiting with our neighbors Ben and Rhonda. Who just happen to be some friends of ours. They are full time travelers and own a Carriage Cameo. We probably hit the road a little before 11. Like I said we didn't go very far but it was a different state. We landed in Missouri at Ray Berhens Deer Run campground. We found a great site 2A. We really like this park. We used to camp here quite often. The leaves have started to change so it's really pretty. Our site is paved, 50 amp and a sewer hook up. We backed in and set up no problems...yeah. Oh did I mention that our weather today is perfect. It was sunny and warm.

Miss Ruby and I went for a walk to check out the place. With all our visiting she has been missing out on her walks. The leaves have really started to change. They are yellow orange and pink so pretty.
Because we have been on the run tonight we fixed a nice dinner. It was good to eat at home.

Tuesday October 23- We aren't leaving today either. Jeff wants to get busy fixing that water leak issue. He had to take down the cover under our rig so he could get all that wet insulation out. Then he replaced it and put it back up. It was a big relief to get that done. He is glad he waited until he had pavement to lay on. The temperature was warmer too. It was nice not having to go anywhere. Took the dogs for a walk too.

Wednesday October 24- Today starts our visiting again. First stop is going to Mexico Missouri. We have some friends that just moved back from Colorado. So off we went to Larry and Francie's new house for lunch. They gave us a tour of there home and showed us what there plans are. Francie is a quilter so I got to see some of her master pieces. Wow does she do beautiful work. We got an extra blessing today, because the reason she moved back here was to be close to her parents, Guy and Jean. They are some of the finest folk we know. So after eating and talking we walked over to see them.

We managed to stay most of the day and we got home around 7:30. What a great way to spend a day.

Thursday October 25- Today we went to Quincy Illinois to have lunch with Jeff's sister and brother in law. We met Janie and Tom at Fuji for a wonderful lunch. We haven't seen them for a while either. Our lunch was so good and it was nice to see them again. We used to live by them in West Point, Illinois.

On our way back to the campground we couldn't help but notice the colors of Fall. They have changed a lot even since we've gotten here.

As you can see it was a very gray day. So after lunch we headed back. We had some problems with our water pressure so Jeff has been trying to take care of that. We ended up getting rain in the evening.

Friday October 26- Today we will be making a trip to Hannibal Missouri. First I went to the Hickory Stick, one of my favorite quilt stores. Jeff waited in the car while I went in...I love this place.

I found some really nice fabrics that I couldn't live without. One of the sales lady showed me a really nice iron and wool ironing pad. I didn't get it but I'm going to purchase them in the future. I kept my shopping adventure to about an hour. Then we went to The Mark Twain Dinette for lunch. We met Amanda, Dave and there 3 kiddos. She is a good friend from church. We had a great lunch at a unique restaurant. It was really fun getting to know her children. They were really good and patient while we talked. They loved my fries and homemade root beer.

We stopped at Aldi's before heading back to the campground. I think the leaves have gotten prettier.

Saturday October 27- It was a cool morning but warmed up really nice. We will be leaving tomorrow so we put away our outside stuff. I also put away stuff inside. We sat down the watch the Iowa Hawkeyes play. All the sudden someone is knocking at our door...WHAT! Jeff answers and surprise it is Larry and Francie. It is so nice they decided to go for a motorcycle ride. Lucky us they picked us to come see. I'm sure the scenery around the park didn't have anything to do with it.

They didn't stay long but what a wonderful surprise. The took off and we watched the Hawkeyes lose. Oh well can't win them all. Then we got ready for a road trip. We are heading back to Keokuk to The Yacht Club. Justin and the guys are playing there tonight for a Halloween party. It was about 1 hour and 15 minutes to get there. Not bad in the daylight but I'm sure it won't be as fun on the way home. We arrived early. Justin had invited family and friends and so did we. There was a really good turn out. Jeff's 2 brothers came, with there families. I had a brother, some nieces and nephews and some really good friends. Such a fun night. Jeff even got up and played a few songs.

Being yachtsmen at the Yacht Club

me and my best friend

Well we stayed until they were done playing, which was after midnight. So we headed back. First of all I don't like diving at night. At this time of year the deer are everywhere. We spotted 4 on the way home. One was a huge buck standing on the shoulder. I slowed way down and he didn't move. That was pretty exciting but near as exciting as the crazy driver that was driving toward me in my passing lane. Some how he crossed the median and decided he wanted to use one of my two lanes. Now that was scarey. I was super happy when we pulled into our site....success.

Sunday October 28- Well getting home so late, morning showed up fast. We surprised ourselves being on the road by 8:30. We are traveling to Branson Missouri. It is almost 300 miles which is longer than usual. The drive was really nice until we arrived in Branson. Jeff's GPS took him a stupid way. To say it was sketchy is being kind. With that being said we made it to Treasure Lake RV Park. This place is huge and we are aggravated because of the last part of our trip. We got in the car to go find a site. It took awhile because we didn't know this park. We took site number 232. It was a pull through. We have 50 amp and a sewer hook up. The good news is there are laundry facilities right across the street. So I went to get the laundry caught up.

It is really a big place with over 500 sites. They have a lot of amenities. We are staying only 3 nights so we will have to see what we can get done.
