Made It To Florida

Monday November 13- Today was a travel day for us. We were on the road a little before 9. We also had great weather to travel. We made a couple stops at rest areas like we always do. Just to check and make sure everything is alright. We like to get the dogs out too. We made our way toward the ocean and had to make a right turn on to A1A. Oh boy was it a tight turn. Jeff is always careful with his tires but it was nearly impossible to not hit that curb, we hit the curb. You could also see that there was some damage to the area from the recent hurricanes. We found our park, Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area. There are 2 different campgrounds. One is on the ocean side the other on a inter coastal. The ocean side is older and the sites are smaller. We didn't stay there. It was good to because the wind over there the first 3 days was crazy. Our campground was new and the sites were big and easy to get in. We landed on site #58. We have 50 amp, water but no sewer. We did notice that a few sites do have sewer...maybe next time. The shower house was located right across the road. They were awesome, clean and fairly new. They also had washers and dryers. This is our first visit to this park and we loved it from the start. They have a really nice boat ramp too. We settled in and walked around a bit. We are here for 5 days...first Florida stop.

Tuesday November 14- It looked good out there this morning so I put Miss Ruby in my basket and we went for a bike ride. Rode down by the water to check it our. The sunshine didn't last long the clouds rolled in and wind with it. We even got a few sprinkles, so back we went. We hung around home and did some cleaning.

Wednesday November 15- Today we had to make a trip to Petsmart. Ruby or Belle managed to slice the canvas part of her playpen and Ruby escaped. Now Jeff doesn't trust it. We needed to come up with another option. So in to town we go. Took Ruby with us. We purchased a folding crate with a plastic tray on the bottom. We can put her little kennel inside with her pee pad and she still has room to move around. We feel better about leaving her in this one. She seems to like it.

Thursday November 16- Happy Birthday to our youngest son Justin! In honor of his birthday we decided to celebrate and go to Marineland. It is billed as the world's first oceanarium. We got there just about when they opened. It is located right on the ocean. We paid our fee, plus the tour and to feed the dolphins. This is no Sea World, but we didn't expect that. We knew what we were going to see. I love that this place in on the ocean. We had a great day too.

We made our way down the walkway to meet our guide and get our tour. We first stopped by the dolphin tanks and watched some of there residents. Who doesn't like to watch dolphins?

After we watched the dolphins for a while, then we went into the building and started the tour. It was very interesting. The big tank had windows to watch and film the dolphins. They filmed the underwater scenes for Sea Hunt here. When they opened this place they thought dolphins were like fish. Nobody had trained them. They hired someone from Barnum to come train the dolphins. He took the job but wasn't sure if he could train them. This was one hopping place in the day.

Here Jeff is checking out the 3-D  camera. We also had some aquariums and we were lucky enough to see this eel. They say he hardly ever comes out of his hiding place. Our tour guide was full of answers for our questions. Come to find out this was her first tour but she did a wonderful job, she made it fun.

After our tour, we had to pass by the dolphins again. Yes we had to stop and watch. Our next adventure was to touch and feed the dolphins. We paid extra for it. Jeff and I had a gal take us to the habitat. We got to meet Zach. We got to feed him some fishes. We got to pet him. He just stayed right there and let us pet him. We both loved it. We couldn't really take pictures because we were all wet. They had someone taking pictures for us. We didn't get the pictures but he had some funny shots. We had a great morning there. Next we drove on up A1A toward St. Augustine. First we stopped at a little place one the workers at Marineland told us about, South Beach Grill.

Very nice little spot right on the ocean. The food was really good. We even got to see some turtles while we ate. It was a good pick. Then onward to St. Augustine to check out the fort.

There was a fee to go in but a lady came out and gave us a pass to get in. We did a quick look around and then made our way to the business district. Again we just wanted to walk around and see a little bit of the city. It seemed to be a really nice place to visit. Here are a few pictures from the day.

We didn't do much shopping except for the awesome fudge we bought. Then we headed back to our rig to see how the pups did.

Friday November 17- It was cool this morning but the wind had died down quite a bit. We grabbed Miss Ruby put her in my basket and rode our bikes over to the doggy beach. It was Ruby's first visit to the beach. We think she liked it but she wanted to eat everything she saw.

After a little beach time we went back. It was such a nice day we decided to take the kayaks to the boat ramp and try a little fishing. We haven't had them things in water for so long. It was nice, but the fishing wasn't good. Oh well it was a nice day just to enjoy being on the water.

When we got back we visited with some neighbors. He is a firefighter. It was nice getting to visit with Rick and Diana. Tomorrow we move to another spot. We really like this park and would come back again.

Saturday November 18- We are heading south again today but not very far. It's only going to be about 1 1/2 hour ride. We love those travel days. Super easy drive, and easy to find our R.V. park. We arrived in Mims Florida and Seasons in The Sun  R.V. Park. Really a nice park. We are only staying 2 nights here. Our site #132. We have 50 amp service, water and sewer. This park offers plenty. They have 2 pools, a hot tub, tennis courts, dog park, and laundry. It is well taken care of. We set up and I went to the pool. Jeff took the dogs to the dog park.

While I was  at the pool I was talking to some people and found out a pizza place we are going for supper. Super nice people here. Our pizza was really good and so was the service....yummy.

Sunday November 19- Cool morning, we found us a Waffle House for breakfast. It was a whole lot better than our last visit. When we got back I went to the hot tub. The pool area opened at 10 and that's when I got there. Jeff joined me for a bit. Then he went back and I sat by the pool. Came back around noon and decided to get my laundry caught up. The clouds came in and we had a little rain.  Jeff surprised me with tickets to watch the Blackhawks play the Florida Panthers....so excited.

Monday November 20- Today is another travel day. We didn't have much unloaded so it was easy to pack up. We got on the road a little after 9. We have about 160 miles to travel. We are heading to The Lion Country Safari KOA. We stayed here our first year out. This time we will be here a month. Last time only 3 nights. They escorted us to our site #82. It is a pull through with 50 amp, water and sewer.  We unhitched and got set up. This time we got out some stuff. I even put together my hanging chair. It was nice to have our stuff out to enjoy. I decided to get a grocery list made out and get to the closest Publix to beat all the holiday traffic. Well the store was only about 4 miles away. The store was still pretty busy. I'm glad I didn't wait any longer. Now we have all the stuff we need for the holidays. We walked around the campground checking out everything. They have a really nice pool here that is heated. They have a doggy park as well. What we like the best is all the animal noises you here. The lions really moan, mostly morning and evening. You can also hear some monkeys. If you close your eyes it's almost like you are in Africa....kind of.

Tuesday November 21- Happy Birthday to our daughter-in-law Molly. This will be her last birthday before she becomes a mom. We woke up to rain, and it had rained quite a bit. I thought we might get rain for the whole day so I started cleaning. Going through drawers and closets. I made breakfast for lunch and before I knew it the sun was out. So off to the pool I went. Jeff came up later and brought my new floating bean bag chair. I read the rules and it doesn't say anything about floating stuff in the pool. That made me very happy. Jeff loves the chair too.

As you can see we had the pool practically to ourselves.

Wednesday November 22- When I got up this morning I decided to get stuff started for tomorrow. That's what I did when I lived at home. We don't do all that food now but it's still nice to have things ready to go. I also made our dessert today. Pumpkin Pie cake, which is so good. Making it a day early means we can sample it tonight. I gave Ruby a bath. Went to the pool but when the clouds came out it was cool. The park is getting so busy. Thanksgiving weekend is going to be hopping around here.

Thursday November 23- Happy Thanksgiving everyone. We have plenty to be thankful for. We got up and got the turkey started. We went for a walk. You can't believe how much stuff some of these campers have brought. They are having some big family feasts. We sat outside and our food was ready about noon. So we had an early Thanksgiving. It is OK but it made the day extra long. Everything turned out really good and we both got stuffed.

We had leftovers for supper. We talked to our kids and the grand kids. Again it was quite a long day.

Friday November 24- Today I decided to put up my Christmas decorations. This year I'm doing things a little different. I brought some things I had packed up at my son's house. I thought I would change things up. I think I like the way they look.

It was another nice day outside so I sat outside. I didn't go to the pool because this place is super busy with families. I thought I would let them enjoy the pool. While I was outside, Ruby must have eaten something. Jeff went to give her lunch and she didn't eat. She got sick. I was holding her and watching her. She had both of us super worried because she kept drooling. We almost took her in to a vet. It was a long afternoon. About supper time she started to perk up a bit and get back to her spunky self.  Learned a lesson, don't let her hang out in the grass. We put her in her collapsible playpen from on. She really likes it in there and she is safe. We are still keeping a close eye on her.

Saturday November 25- We are so happy that Ruby is back to herself. Today we are going to watch the Blackhawks play the Florida Panthers. We thought maybe we wouldn't be able to go but are happy we can. We wanted to leave early and go out for supper before the game. There is a mall right across the street from the stadium. Well before leaving we thought maybe we could get some work done. Jeff washed the rig and started the waxing. I did the laundry and gave Ruby another bath because after being sick she needed it. She does pretty good, even when I blow dry her hair.

We hit the road around 2 o'clock. The drive down was easy. When we got to the mall, well that was a mess. That place was packed. Not a parking spot to be had. They were even parking on the grass between the trees jumping the curbs. Well it was a bit stressful. We decided to go to the stadium, pay for parking and walk across the street to eat. When we pulled in the parking lot nobody was there. We parked, went over to eat at the Cheesecake Factory. It to was really busy. We didn't have to wait long and our meal was good. We finished off the meal with a slice of red velvet cheesecake. So good.

Next we made our way back across the street and into the arena. We got there an hour early and there wasn't many there. We found our way to our seats which were really good and sat down. There wasn't hardly anybody in there.

Well the game started at 7 o'clock. I couldn't believe how many empty seats there were. Another thing that was funny was the fans. I think there was almost as many Blackhawk fans as Panther fans. Well it was a good game with the Blackhawks winning 4-1. I'm so happy I finally got to go to a game. Thanks Jeff. When the game was over I drove home and it was fairly easy to get out of there. They had everything set up and people directing traffic.

Sunday November 26- It was a late night for us last night. When we got home Ruby wasn't really ready to get back into her pen for bedtime. She kind of whined until after midnight. Then she was up earlier than normal. I worked on downloading pictures. We walked around the campground. We also watched lots and lots of campers pull out. The weather was warm and sunny so I decided to go to the pool. It was quiet and very relaxing. We went to the store. Jeff got a great deal on tickets for the Lion Country Safari park. Can't wait to do that. We both are really liking this park. It's quiet, well except for the animals. It is well taken care of. It is also in a good area. We have found lots of things we want to do. I think the month here will go fast.
